If your doctor decides that you do, in fact, experience fecal incontinence, there are many different medications, treatments or surgeries that he or she may suggest. Here are three of the most common medications that are prescribed to help this issue:
- Stool softeners – This medication can help to prevent stool impaction.
- Anti-diarrheal drugs – These will help you to avoid accidents while reducing diarrhea.
- Laxatives – It seems weird, but if your incontinence is because of chronic constipation, temporary use of mild laxatives can help you regulate.
There are other medications which may be used also, such as drugs that decrease the water content of your movements or those that decrease your bowel motility.
