Homeopathy is one of those things that can be difficult to grasp. The science behind it can be a little overwhelming, and, since most of us aren't scientists, it can be pretty confusing.

 

I was excited to have found this video, which is a mash-up of several experts discussing homeopathy at its most basic level. While this video doesn't explain everything about homeopathy, it's very helpful for someone that's new to the practice and wants to know more about the scientific aspect of it.

Learn About Homeopathy from the Pros

You know me – when I want to learn about something, I spend a lot of time researching so that I can be sure to learn as much as I can. In my quest to know more about homeopathy, I can across a great site that has dozens of interviews with professionals in the industry.

Here are a couple of interviews that I found especially useful:

1. Dr. Marcelo Candegabe, a doctor whose first experience with homeopathy was at age three.
2. Nancy Herrick, who has been involved in homeopathy for over three decades.
3. Dr. Rajan Sankaran, author of The Spirit of Homeopathy.

And these are just a few of the invaluable interviews that can be found.

Homeopathic eBooks Let You Learn from the Pros in Your Home

You all know I’ve been on a homeopathy kick.  I’ve recently discovered a large online collection of homeopathic eBooks that, I have to say, are pretty great.

There are books available online as well as books available for download, so whatever computer you’re working on, you have easy access to reliable books that will teach you about homeopathy.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

1. Keynotes and Characteristics by Henry Clay Allen, M.D. – This eBook gives a thorough rundown of the leading remedies in homeopathy, complete with comparisons and major characteristics.
2. Homeopathic Remedies in “First Aid” Applications by Alice Magooey – This booklet gives practical advice on how to utilize homeopathy in emergency situations.
3. Homeopathy:  Beyond Flat Earth Medicine by Timothy R. Dooley, N.D., M.D. – This book is a fantastic introduction to homeopathy.  *The hyperlink is to a PDF version of the first edition.*

Delhi Sees Importance of Homeopathy

While reading up on news around the world, I came across this article.

It seems as though the chief minister of Delhi has taken a step to make homeopathic treatment more readily accessible to his people.  The website is www.homeo.delhigovt.nic.in and gives homeopathic advice while also providing “online treatment facility”.  Those in Delhi can search and read about general homeopathy, remedies, and government homeopathy dispensaries. 

I have to say that I’m impressed.  Maybe it won’t be so long down the road that the United States

will see the benefits that can come from homeopathy.

Finding Fantastic Books About Homeopathy

When I want to learn more about a particular subject, I turn to books.  I read as much as I can.  The only down side to this is that sometimes, I pick up a book that’s less than helpful.  It’s so hard trying to make sure that you choose the best, most informative books on the market!

When it comes to homeopathy, I’ve found a great website filled with homeopathy book reviews.

There are dozens of books about homeopathy that have been reviewed, and each review is thoughtful and in-depth.  The bottom line?  If you’re interested in learning more about homeopathy but don’t know what books to check out, look at the book reviews at this website.

5 Homeopathic Remedies for Motion Sickness

I never got carsick until this year.  I don’t know what changed, but I’ve realized that riding in the back seat of a car is not the wisest choice for me.

With this in mind, I was very happy to find the following homeopathic remedies for motion sickness:

1. Argentum Nitricum – This remedy is best for those who experience nausea, dizziness and vomiting when experiencing motion sickness.

2. Cocculus Indicus – This is a very popular remedy that’s particularly helpful when you experience nausea (especially when it gets worse at the smell or sight of food), weakness, dizziness, or an empty feeling in your stomach.

3. Nux Vomica – This is used for severe nausea accompanied by headache.

4. Kali Bichromicum – This remedy works for seasickness.

5. Rhus Toxicodendron – This is used for airsickness accompanied with vomiting and nausea.

Three Homeopathic Remedies That Will Help Diarrhea

It’s about time I gave you all some actual examples of homeopathy, right?  I thought so, too.  Here are three homeopathic remedies to give a shot when you or someone you knows has diarrhea.

1. Arsenicum Album

When you are experiencing diarrhea that burns along with fatigue and nausea, give this a try. 

2. Aloe

When you have gassy diarrhea, this is your homeopathic remedy of choice.

3. Sulfur

This tends to help with those who experience rectal soreness, itchiness or burning as well as offensive-smelling, hot-feeling stools.  (That doesn’t sound like fun, does it?)

How are Homeopathic Remedies Found?

As I’ve explained, homeopathy uses a unique principle of “like curing like”.  But how do homeopaths discover which remedies work for various symptoms and illnesses?

There are three different ways that the medicines are found:

1. Toxicity symptoms (such as diarrhea and vomiting caused by various poisons or toxins)

2. The “signature” of the medicine.  This is an ancient medical theory that’s based on the characteristics of various substances.  The Society of Homeopaths gives the example of deadly nightshade’s large black berries resembling dilated pupils during high fever.

3. Proving the effectiveness of a substance.  This involves testing the substance on a group of healthy participants who then record all of their symptoms.  When there is an agreement of symptoms, this remedy is recorded and used in future cases.

You all knot that I’ve been on a research kick, learning about homeopathy.  I came across Louis McLean’s informative article “Presenting 50 Facts About Homeopathy” and wanted to make sure that I shared it with you.

Here are some of the facts that stuck out to me, your Colonista:

#3 – “Homeopathy is an evidence-based, empirical medicine.”

#14 – “There are more than 4,000 homeopathic medicines.”

#21 – “Epidemics such as cholera and typhoid were treated successfully using homeopathy in the 19th century with very high success rates, compared to orthodox medicine (http://www.whale.to/v/winston.html) .”
